"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had." - Philippians 2:3-5 NLT
Even though we have gifts and talents, we are not perfect. We have weaknesses and flaws. We have missed and continue to miss the mark in many ways. Remembering this helps us to not think of ourselves too highly, but to be thankful that God loves us anyway. Our sense of identity and joy does not come from our strengths or our weaknesses, but rather it comes from God’s love for us.
To truly live with humility means to take the focus off ourselves, so that we can focus on others. Make sure you remember this important point about humility - it is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.
In this passage, we are called to imitate the attitude of Jesus. What kind of attitude did He have?
